Vintage Armchairs, Accent Chairs, and Sofas: Proper Character for Real Homes

I can’t walk past a retro armchair without stopping for a look. My first memory of proper furniture is my grandad’s wingback chair. It was worn, patched, and squeaky, but it was part of us.

When London was swinging, furniture meant something. You’d hand down sofas from parents to Subadvocates kids. You can feel it when you sit down.

I rescued a battered armchair from outside a shop in Peckham. Some would’ve laughed at the state of it, but as soon as I sat down it felt right. It’s become part of my story.

Every borough in London has its own taste. Belgravia keeps it polished, with deep sofas. Camden loves the clash, with bold fabrics. London wouldn’t be London without the variety.

Showroom sofas don’t talk back. Vintage finds last decades. They carry scratches like tattoos.

Truth be told, a battered sofa tells more truth than any showroom. An armchair should hug you back.

If you’re scrolling catalogue sites, go dig through a car boot. Take home something with scars, and retro sofagruppe make it part of your story.
